This month’s “Kinship Report” is on a LEE Family connection to Missouri. I think many of you will find this interesting.

The War was much more than “political” but it had far reaching implications throughout the South. This War was also a family or cultural War raged on by the political machine of the North -- the political machine that had turned its eyes away from the cultural part of America but was looking solely at the commercialization or industrialization of America. There is another word for those two words. Think about it?

Anyways here is only one connection of the Lee Family and beyound to Missouri.

Richard Lee was born in Gloucester, Virginia; died 12 March 1714 in Westmoreland, Virginia. He married Laetitia Corbin in Westmoreland, Virginia. She was born in Stratfordshire, England.

To them was born:

  1. Francis Lee, born 1648, Northampton, Virginia

  2. Richard Lee, born 1678, Middlesex, Virginia

  3. John Lee, born 1679, Westmoreland, Virginia

  4. Philip Lee, born 1681, Middlesex, Virginia

  5. Francis Lee, born 1682, Westmoreland, Virginia

  6. Ann Lee, born 1683, Westmoreland, Virginia

  7. Thomas Lee, born 1690, Westmoreland, Virginia

First, let’s look at Thomas Lee (#7 above) and his brother Henry Lee (#8 above).

Thomas Lee was born 1690 at Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland, Virginia. He died 14 November 1750 at Stratford, Westmoreland, Virginia. He married Hannah Harrison Ludwell on May 1722 in Green Spring, Westmoreland, Virginia. She was born 5 December 1701 in Green Springs, and died on 25 January 1750 at Stratford, Westmoreland, Virginia.

Hannah Harrison Ludwell had quite a line of kinship. She was cousin to William Henry Harrison, 9th US President; Benjamin Harrison, 23rd US President; and Rutherford B. Hayes 19th US President. These are just to name a few.

Their Children were:

  1. Philip Ludwell Lee

  2. Hannah Lee

The above Henry Lee (#1) born 29 January 1756 at Prince William, Virginia and died 25 March 1818 at Cumberland Island, Georgia. He was married to Ann Hill Carter on 18 June 1793 at Stratford Hall, Westmoreland, Virginia. She was born 1773 at Shirley Plantation, James River, Virginia and died 1829 at Ravensworth Plantation, Westmoreland, Virginia.

Henry Lee was married several times.

Henry Lee and Ann Hill Carter’s children were:

  1. Philip Ludwell Lee

  6. Charles Carter Lee

  7. Anne Kinloch Lee

  8. Sydney Smith Lee

  9. Robert Edward Lee (General of the Confederate Army)

  10. Catherine Mildred Lee

Now back up to Thomas Lee (#7) brother to Henry Lee and Great Great Uncle to Gen. Robert E. Lee.

One of Thomas Lee’s sons was Richard Henry Lee.

Richard Henry Lee (brother to Francis Lightfoot Lee) was born 20 January 1732 at Stratford, Westmoreland, Virginia and died 19 June 1794 at Chantilly, Westmoreland, Virginia. He married twice; to Anney Aylett and to Anne Gaskins.

Richard Henry Lee’s children were;

  1. Elizabeth Lee

  2. William F. Lee

  3. Thomas Lee

  4. Ludwell Lee

  5. Mary Lee

  6. Hannah Lee

  7. Marybelle Lee

  8. Anne Lee

  9. Henrietta Lee

  10. Sarah Lee

  11. Cassius Lee

  12. Francis Lightfoot Lee

Now the Missouri tie to the Lee Family.

Elizabeth Lee was born in 1755 in Virginia. She died 15 September 1787 in Lancaster, Virginia. She was married to Joshua Logan Younger in 1771 at Barron Co., Kentucky. He was born 11 May 1752 in Virginia and died 2 August 1834 in Lawrence, Indiana.

Joshua Logan Younger was married twice. First to Elizabeth Lee and then to Catherine Yoter.

Joshua Younger and Elizabeth Lee’s children were:

  1. Sallie Younger

  2. Joshua Younger

  3. Peter Younger

  4. Elizabeth Lee Younger

  5. Henry Younger

  6. Isaac Younger

  7. David Younger

  8. Charles Lee Younger

  9. Andrew Younger

  10. Rachel Younger

  11. Littleton Younger

Charles Lee Younger was born 28 December 1779 in Hampshire, Virginia and died 12 November 1854 at Osceola, St. Clair Co., Missouri. He was married three times. First to Nancy Toney in 1798 in Gerrard, Virginia, second to Sarah Sullivan Purcell in 1807 in Clark Co., Indiana and third to Parmelia Dorcus Wilson on 1817 in Hampshire, Virginia.

Charles Lee Younger and Nancy Toney’s children were:

  1. Milton T. Younger

  2. Elizabeth Darlisco Younger

Charles Lee Younger and Sarah Purcell's children were:

  1. Thomas Coleman Younger

  2. Henry Washington Younger

  3. Littleton Purcell Younger

  4. Sidney Ann Younger

  5. Lucy Younger

  6. Thomas Coleman Younger

  7. Henry Washington Younger

  8. Virginia Lee Younger

  9. Littleton Purcell

  10. Sidney Ann Younger

Charles Lee Younger and Parmelia Dorcus Wilson’s children were:

  1. Adeline Lee Younger

  2. Charles Franklin Younger

  3. Sophia Lee Younger

  4. Mary Agatha Younger

  5. Martha Jane Younger

  6. Thomas Jefferson Younger

  7. Richard Younger

  8. Bruce Younger

Henry Washington Younger was born 22 February 1810 at Crab Orchard, Lincoln Co, Kentucky and was killed on 20 July 1862 near Westport, Missouri. His death was due to “political assassination”. He was mayor of Harrisonville, and had been in the legislature more than 3 times.

His cattle were rustled by Kansas Jayhawkers the day of his death. The Missouri State Militia and the Kansas Jayhawkers ambushed him.

He was married to Bursheba Fristoe in 1830 at Jackson Co., Missouri. She was born 6 June 1816 at McMinnville, Warren Co., Tennessee and died 6 June 1870 at Lees Summit, Jackson Co., Missouri.

Henry Washington Younger and Bursheba Fristoe’s children were:

  1. Lauren Helen Younger

  2. Isabela Frances Younger

  3. Martha Ann Younger

  4. Charles Richard Younger

  5. Mary Josephine Younger

  6. Caroline Younger

  7. Thomas Coleman Younger

  8. Sarah Ann Younger

  9. James Hardin Younger

  10. Alphae Younger

  11. John Harrison Younger

  12. Emily J. Younger

  13. Robert Ewing Younger

  14. Henrietta Younger

So the above Thomas Coleman Younger (Cole Younger) a favourite son of Missouri and the Lee family of Virginia are close kin and makes the Missouri connection. Robert E. Lee and Cole Younger were cousins.

Just a few of the more known kinsmen of Cole Younger and his Lee family are:

Francis Lightfoot Lee

Zachary Taylor 12th US President

Wm. Henry Harrison 9th US President

Elizabeth "Bess" Virginia Wallace Truman

The list could go on and on for the kinship of the Younger family and its ties to the Lee family and other notable figures in this country.

There is so much history in Missouri and its association with her sister Southern States. It amazes me how learned people still cannot understand the connection.

So a question to y’all. We know that Henry Washington Younger, father of the Younger boys, was killed in a “political assassination” by the Federal Army and the Kansas Redlegs. Could some of the reason he was assassinated be because of his connection to the Lee Family? Just a question of thoughts.
